What’s in a name? In Genesis chapter 17 we read the account of God changing Abram’s name to Abraham. God said, “I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram; now you will be known as Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations.” Every time a person used Abraham’s name they were prophetically declaring God’s divine intention for his life. Sunday September 28, 2008 is the day that Swan City Church changed its name to dreambuilders church – Swan City. We believe that like Abram’s name change to Abraham, the name change marks a prophetic shift in the life of the church. It is a positive declaration of who we are and what we are about as a church as opposed to a name that simply states our geographic location. We believe that God has a dream, a plan or a purpose for everyone and our mission is to help connect people with God and His destiny for them. Throughout Scripture we see that people are used by the Lord to connect others to God, His calling for them and their future. God used people like Stephen, Ananias and Barnabas to We are called to play an important part in building lives who will glorify God by living out His dream for their life. The world is full of people who have no dreams, lost dreams or broken dreams and the Lord is looking for a people who will help others discover, rediscover or rebuild God’s dream for them – He is looking for dreambuilders. Jesus said that whilst the devil’s plan is to kill steal and destroy, His plan is to give abundant life. The devil may be at work in the world being a dream destroyer, but the Lord is working through people like us to be dreambuilders. Throughout this year, we have been sharing about the qualities of people passionate about fulfilling our churches mission of building lives and transforming communities. We are a people committed to being… a Devotional people (growing in God through prayer, the Word worship and serving); a Relational people (building positive relationships with people in our sphere of influence); an Equipping people (passionate about being equipped and equipping others to serve God’s purpose); an Anointed people (fulfilling God’s purpose under the anointing of the Holy Spirit); and a Missional people (fulfilling the great commission locally, nationally and globally). These are qualities of dreambuilders. We thank God for the past, but we are very excited about the future and all that the Lord will do through us as dreambuilders church. We’re looking forward to doing the journey with you. Love and blessings, Dale & Karen
