God is alive! The fact that He is a living God is contrasted with idols.
Jeremiah 10:6 through Jeremiah 10:10 (NLT)
6LORD, there is no one like you! For you are great, and your name is full of power. 7Who would not fear you, O King of nations? That title belongs to you alone! Among all the wise people of the earth and in all the kingdoms of the world, there is no one like you. 8The wisest of people who worship idols are stupid and foolish. The things they worship are made of wood! 9They bring beaten sheets of silver from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, and they give these materials to skillful craftsmen who make their idols. God is self-existent. He does not derive His life from any eternal source.
John 5:26 (NLT)
26The Father has life in himself, and he has granted his Son to have life in himself.
Being eternal means that there was never a time when He did not exist. Before anything else God was in existence. Just as He existed before anything else, He can continue to exist independent of anything else – yet He is prepared to relate to us.
He is omniscient – all knowing
He is omnipresent – ever present
He is omnipotent – all powerful
He is immutable – His perfection neither demands nor requires change
This is the orthodox Christian doctrine known as the “doctrine of the trinity”. The term “Trinity” is not a word used in Scripture, but it is a word which describes a Scriptural fact.
Scripture speaks of the Father as deity, the Son as deity and the Holy Spirit as deity. The entire three persons are coeternal and coequal with one another.
